Charming Ceylon

Our way of travelling

Sri Lanka, shared with care.

We put together private journeys across the island for people who would rather see four places properly than nine in passing.

Our approach

An invitation to travel a little more personally.

Most Sri Lanka itineraries run the same loop at the same speed. Sigiriya on day two, Kandy on day three, the coast by the weekend. It covers the ground, and it wears people out.

The routes here are built the other way round, starting from how long somewhere is worth staying rather than how many places fit in a week. That is why the shortest journey on this site runs 5 days and the longest 12, and why several of them leave you in the same bed for two nights running.

We are a small operation. That means you get answers from someone who has driven the road in question, and it means we would rather turn down a fortnight we cannot do well than sell it to you anyway.

Travel that behaves itself

Temples are places people pray in and villages are places people live in. Our guides know when a camera is welcome and when it is not, and they will tell you.

Local knowledge, used properly

Knowing the island means knowing when the Kandy road is hopeless, which viewpoint clears at dawn, and which month the whales are actually off Mirissa.

Reachable while you travel

A private driver-guide for the whole route and someone contactable if a plan needs to move. Nothing here runs on a group timetable.

Before you write

You can see how this works before you commit to anything.

What happens after an enquiry, what every journey includes, what it does not, and the three things we will not do. All of it is written down rather than left to be discovered later.

How we work

Your island, your way

Tell us roughly what you want.

Your dates, a rough length, the places you have already read about. That is enough for us to start.
